Actor Bio

Alison Sealy-Smith, a native of Barbados, has had a long and varied career on Canadian stage and screen. Her television credits include recurring roles on 'This is Wonderland', 'Street Legal' and 'Naturally Sadie'. She has also appeared on 'da Kink in My Hair', 'The Jane Show', 'Kevin Hill', 'Blue Murder', 'Due South' and 'Traders'. Alison's recent film work includes 'Talk to Me', 'You Kill Me', 'Take the Lead', 'Dark Water' and 'Honey'. Her voice has been heard in two animated series, 'X Men' and 'Delilah and Julius'. Alison has received three Dora nominations for her roles in 'Tartuffe', 'Coups and Calypsoes' and most recently for her performance in 'Cast Iron'. In 1997, her outstanding performance in Nightwood Theatre's 'Harlem Duet' was awarded a Dora. Other theatre credits include work at the Stratford Festival, 'Good Night Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet', 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and 'The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God'. Alison is a founding member of Obsidian Theatre Company, and its artistic director from 2000 to 2006. Her acting credits there include the ground-breaking adaptation of 'The Polished Hoe', while her Obsidian directing credits include 'The Piano Lesson'. Other directing work includes 'Harlem Duet', 'Having Our Say', 'Afrika Solo' and 'The Prince of Barotac'. Most recently Alison was assistant director on Stratford's 'The Odyssey'. She is the proud recipient of a Harold award, a Salute to the City award, a Harry Jerome award and a George Luscombe award for her contribution to the arts in Toronto.
