Actor Bio
Born and raised in North Carolina, Sharon Lawrence began her career as a singer and dancer appearing on stage in New York in the record breaking revivals of 'Zorba', 'Cabaret' and 'Fiddler on the Roof'. She is best known however, for her role as Sylvia Costas Sipowitz on the hit series 'NYPD Blue' for which she earned a Screen Actor's Guild Award and three Emmy nominations. While still making occasional appearances on 'NYPD Blue', Lawrence headlined her own comedy series, 'Fired Up', making her one of the few actresses to star in two prime time series on competing networks in the same season. After 'Fired Up', Lawrence went on to star opposite Alfred Molina and Betty White in the comedy series 'Ladies Man', which ran for two seasons. While on hiatus from that show, she starred as Velma Kelly, the sexy murderess in 'Chicago' on Broadway.
In 2007 she starred in Kevin Williamson's 'Hidden Palms' for the CW network, wrapped her recurring role on 'Monk' and completed the Lifetime mini-series, 'Chasing the Devil - The Hunt for the Green River Killer' by John Pielmeir.
Sharon's Los Angeles theater work includes 'Company' and 'I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road' at UCLA's Reprise!, 'Tongue of a Bird' with Cherry Jones for both the Mark Taper Forum and the Public Theatre and 'Under the Blue Sky' and 'Paint Your Wagon' at The Geffen Playhouse. Her regional appearances include Reno Sweeny in 'Anything Goes' at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, 'No Time For Comedy' at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor and most recently, 'Dialectics of the Heart' at the Edgemar Center in Santa Monica.
