Actor Bio

Jamaican-born and Toronto-raised, Yanna began her theatre training at the University of Toronto before graduating from the American Repertory Theatre Institute at Harvard. Her recent screen work includes the film 'Finn's Girl' and TV movies 'A Raisin in the Sun' and 'A Very Lucky Girl'. Other film and television credits include 'The Best Years', 'This is Wonderland', 'The Sentinel', 'Doomstown' (for which she received a Gemini nomination), 'Riverdale', 'The Eleventh Hour', 'Blue Murder', 'Train 48', 'Due South', 'Bob and Margaret', and 'John Q'. Yanna's recent theatre credits include 'Mary Stuart' for Soulpepper, 'Stuff Happens' at CanStage, 'Generous' at Tarragon, and Dora-nominated performances in 'The Monument' at Obsidian Theatre and Volcano Theatre's 'Hedda Gabler'. Her work in 'The Syringa Tree' at Canadian Stage and 'Belle' at Factory Theatre/National Arts Centre resulted in two more Dora nominations, and she received Dora awards for her outstanding performances in Tarragon's 'Skylight' and New Globe Theatre's 'Valley Song'. She has many other theatre credits, and has had success as both a playwright - she co-wrote the play 'Trace' - and as a teacher/director, at the National Theatre School and Humber College.
